Kuimeaux on Shoppach House, Benton, Arkansas drawing

Kuimeaux (KEE-mo) drew the Shoppach (SHOO-per) House in 1973, making it one of his earliest drawings. He made it to commemorate the wedding of Ed and Ina Eaves, which took place in the back yard of the house. A close friend of Ed and Ina, Kuimeaux was in the wedding – he walked their mothers down the aisle.

Built in 1852 in Benton in Saline County, Arkansas by John (or Johann) William Shoppach, an immigrant from Germany, the Shoppach House is the oldest surviving brick structure in Saline County and was added in 1975 to the National Register of Historic Places. Ina has a strong personal connection to the house as a member of the Shoppach family, five generations of which lived there until 1959.

This video was produced in 2023 from footage shot in 2015 in Kuimeaux’s apartment in Sherwood, Arkansas. It is presented in loving memory of Kuimeaux.
